Additional Details

PM, renamed A-D, or, Art Director in 1940, published between 1934 and 1942, was a pioneering and important American graphic design journal which served as an early proponent for the dissemination of European modernism to the United States.

The four bound volumes, beginning with the September, 1937 issue and ending with September, 1941, contain a profusion of important designs by, and articles about, Herbert Bayer, Lester Beall, Joseph Binder, Jean Carlu, Walter Gropius, Georgy Kepes, Herbert Matter, László Moholy-Nagy, L. Sandusky, Paul Rand, Alex Steinweiss, and numerous others. Notable also for its advertisements, many of which include ink and paper swatches.
